Surprises & Disasters

Surprises & Disasters are member-run, randomized events that are posted on the Surprises & Disasters subforum once a month, typically around the 1st. Members will not receive consecutive events of the same type. This means that if you get a Disaster on month, the next month you can only get a Surprise if your name is chosen again. All S&Ds will be monitored to ensure fairness.

Participating in Surprises & Disasters is optional and by volunteer only. To opt in (and out), reply to S&D Opt In: Volunteer as Tribute. Should you be randomly selected for a Surprise or Disaster, you will have 14 days to reply to remain eligible to participate in the future. Failure to respond results in an automatic $1,000 fine paid to the Bank and you will be involuntarily opted-out for at least 2 months.

Horses deaths will not occur, but injuries are possible, potentially preventing showing (2 weeks max). Most Disasters will be able to be "solved" by visiting a business and purchasing something or responding with a creative solution. Any monetary gifts for Surprises will be paid out by the Humane Society bank account should the volunteer reply in time.

You can only earn the Survivor achievement by participating in Surprises & Disasters. For more information on Achievements, check out Members: Achievements!

Year End Awards

At the end of each calendar year, the Admins will host the On The Bit Year End Awards process and ceremony. The awards are game-wide wherein peers vote one another and their horses for prestigious titles. Nominations count as a vote and will be sent in a private message to an Admin during a specified two week period. Votes will be kept anonymous to all recipients.

The person or horse with the most votes for each category wins. In the event of a tie, tie-breakers will be conducted via game-wide polls. Winners of awards will be able to choose from ample cash or credits as their reward.

Quitting

Quitting the game does not prevent you from rejoining later. However, you will start over completely. Any buybacks you placed will be void. Because On The Bit is a closed game, you may not export horses when you quit.

If you are going to quit On The Bit and you do not want your horses to automatically be sent to the Humane Society (ie. you wish to leave them to someone in particular), you will need to make private arrangements and submit the appropriate transfer forms before you post your “quitting” thread in the :link: MIA subforum. Bequeathments are only official when the transfer form is received and processed. After your thread is posted, the rest of your horses are transferred to the Humane Society.
