Additional Classes

  • Junior Rider may be counted for Third Level advancement; rider must be under the age of 18.

  • Four-Year Old Young Horse Test may be counted for First Level advancement.

Horses may only compete in one level at a time.
3 year olds may compete in Young Event Horse but all horses must be 4 years old to begin competing at Beginner Novice.
Horses in Preliminary, Intermediate, and Advanced levels will be eligible to compete in the special CIC/CCI events; see specific event guidelines for more details and restrictions.
CCI or CIC **** events may not be hosted without Admin approval.

Overall placings do NOT count towards advancement. They do count for points.

Hunters do not use traditional sim levels but rather divisions based on three things: the fence height, how long the horse has been showing at that height, and for restricted divisions, the rider’s age and amateur/professional status. For this reasons, hunter do not use advancements like other disciplines.

Hunter Derby Hunter Derbies consist of two rounds, a Classic Round and a Handy Round. The top 12 horses from the Classic Round are invited to compete in the Handy Round. Scores from the two rounds are combined for overall placings.

Starting with shows that ran after 10/24/2019, On The Bit changed from levels to heights for jumpers, allowing classes like Pony and Junior Jumpers to count for advancement. You may NOT apply this rule to move your horses up for shows that began prior to 10/24/2019.

Rider-Restricted Divisions
Horses and ponies must at least be competing at the height the divisions are offered at in order to show.
  • Pony Jumper classes are for ponies ridden by junior riders. Riders competing in a Pony Jumper section cannot compete in any other classes in which they may jump 3’7″ or higher at the same show, except Children’s Jumper. Currently, the OHJA offers Low (1.05M) and High (1.15M).
  • Adult Amateur (AA) Jumper classes are for a horse or pony ridden by an amateur adult rider. If there are less than three entries in the AA or Children’s Jumpers, the divisions will be combined. Entries may not cross into Amateur Owner Jumpers. Currently, the OHJA offers Low (1.05M) and High (1.10M).
  • Children’s Jumper classes are for a horse or pony ridden by a junior rider. If there are less than three entries in the AA or Children’s Jumpers, the divisions will be combined. Entries may not cross into Junior Jumpers. Currently, the OHJA offers Low (1.05M) and High (1.10M).
  • Amateur Owner (AO) Jumper classes are for a horse that is ridden by an amateur owner or an amateur member of the owner’s family. Leased horses are not eligible. Sections may be divided by either level or difficulty or age of rider. Currently, the OHJA divides the division into Low (1.20M, Medium (1.30M) and High (1.40M). If there are less than three entries in AO or Junior Jumpers, the divisions will be combined.
  • Junior Jumper classes are for a horse that is ridden by a junior rider. Sections may be divided by either level or difficulty or age of rider.
